Z-RR-AMC is a fluorogenic substrate for Cathepsin B. Cathepsin B is a lysosomal cysteine protease with a role in intracellular protein degradation. Cathepsin B crosses the blood-brain barrier and elevated levels are implicated in many neurological maladies including traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Activity is quantified by release of free fluorescent 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (AMC) which excites at 360-380 nm and emits at 440-460 nm.
